Two Boots. Two Ideas. One Design Philosophy.
Two Boots. Two Ideas. One Design Philosophy.
What IBTI and GRANATE reveal about the way AROLLO approaches design.
Put IBTI and GRANATE next to each other and they have surprisingly little in common.
One is clean, sharp and deliberately reduced. The other introduces a detail AROLLO had never used before. One draws its character from simplicity, the other from intricacy.
Yet both began with the same question:
What makes a boot feel right?
Different by Design
A recognizable design language does not mean creating the same boot again and again.
Quite the opposite.
For us, the interesting part of designing a new AROLLO boot is finding a different character while preserving the principles behind the brand: genuine leather, carefully considered proportions and a clear idea of what the finished boot should be.
GRANATE and IBTI are two very different examples of this approach.
IBTI: The Discipline of Simplicity
The Overknee IBTI appears simple at first glance.
Black genuine leather. A pointed toe. A slender silhouette. A 13 cm stiletto heel.
But simplicity leaves little room to hide.
When decorative elements are removed, proportions become even more important. The shape of the toe has to work with the heel. The heel has to complement the line of the shaft. And the shaft itself must create the right balance between length and silhouette.
With IBTI, the design is defined by what was not added.
Its character comes from the line itself.
GRANATE: When Detail Changes Everything
The Long Ovekrnee GRANATE started from an entirely different idea.
For the first time in AROLLO history, we wanted to create a lace-up boot.
On an exceptionally long boot, however, lacing is far more than decoration. It changes the visual rhythm of the entire shaft.
That presented a different design challenge:
How much detail can you add before detail becomes distraction?
With GRANATE, the lacing needed to be visible enough to define the boot, yet integrated enough to remain part of the overall silhouette.
The result is deliberately more intricate than IBTI – but not less considered.
What They Have in Common
Look beyond their obvious differences and the relationship between the two becomes clearer.
Both are made from genuine leather. Both depend heavily on proportion. And neither includes a design element simply because it attracts attention.
IBTI shows what can happen when a design is reduced to its essential lines.
GRANATE demonstrates how one carefully chosen detail can transform the personality of an entire boot.
Different methods. The same discipline.
There Is More Than One Kind of Elegance
Perhaps this is also why defining elegance is so difficult.
It can be clean and restrained. It can be detailed and expressive. It does not depend on one heel height, one shaft length or one particular style.
For AROLLO, elegance begins when all the elements of a boot belong together.
IBTI and GRANATE arrive at that point from opposite directions.
And that is exactly what makes designing them interesting.
Perhaps that is what good design ultimately does. It doesn’t tell you what to notice. It simply makes everything feel as though it belongs exactly where it is.
